In the play ‘Macbeth’ Shakespeare uses a variety of different language features. He has used personification to help the readers visualise what is going on. Macbeth says “Come, let me clutch thee” when he sees an imaginary dagger in front of him. He is basically saying to the dagger ‘come, let me clutch you’. By calling the dagger ‘thee’ Macbeth has personified the object. Giving the dagger a human characteristic means the dagger is more than just an object to Macbeth. It now has intention or possibly control over him.
