In this scene Macbeth encounters the three witches. They cast a spell granting Macbeth with immortality. While doing this Macbeth says that no matter what consequences the world has to face for him to get what he asks for, he doesn’t care. Three apparitions appear to answer his three questions.
The first apparition appears as an armoured head. It says to Macbeth “Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! beware Macduff;
Beware the thane of fife. Dismiss me. Enough.”
The armoured head tells Macbeth to be aware of Macduff.
The second apparition appears as a bloody child. It says to Macbeth “Be bloody,bold, and resolute;laugh yo scorn
The power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth.”
The bloody child tells Macbeth they he will not be harmed (immortality).
The third apparition tells appears as a crowned child with a tree in his hand. He says to Macbeth “Be lion-mettled, proud; and take no care
Who chafes, who frets,or where conspirers are: Macbeth shall never vanquish’d be until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill Shall come against him.”
He declares to Macbeth that he cannot be beaten.
Macbeth goes on to ask the witches if Banquo’s children will still become King. He says that if they do not tell him he shall curse them. . A show of eight kings appears with the ghost of Banquo; they confirm that Banquo’s children will become Kings. Although the witches answered Macbeth he still curses them. Macbeth decides to kill Macduff even though he is not afraid of him. He is going to kill Macduff’s family.
