During this scene Lady Macduff and her son were discussing how Macduff had fled. She called him a traitor as he left her defenceless even though he swore to protect her family. The son asks what a traitor and an honest man is. Lady Macbeth responds with “why one that swears and lies”. She defines her husband as a traitor. While they were talking about Macduff a messenger comes to inform them that someone is on their way to murder them. The scene ends when the murderer comes to the castle. He murders the son although Lady Macduff escaped.
