Sonnet 130

How does Shakespeare’s understanding of the sonnet form help him get his message across in sonnet 130?

Shakespeare’s deep understanding of the form of the sonnet helped him convey his message. This sonnet is about his mistress. For the three quatrains he talks about his mistress’ flaws. The way he explains her features can be perceived as him talking badly about her. When then volta came it made his whole message of the sonnet more powerful. The couplet explained that although his mistress has flaws he loves her despite that. His understanding of the sonnet form meant he was able to make the message he was portraying stronger.
